This February, kinship carer and Someone Like Me volunteer Mark is taking on an immense gym challenge where he plans to burn 12,500 calories to raise funds for Kinship.
The challenge is to expend a calorie for each kilometre of the UK coastline through using gym equipment such as:
- Spin Bike
- Elliptical Trainer
- Weight Training
Mark will keep track of his efforts using a Garmin watch, which will count the calories he expends. Mark is fundraising for Kinship through his JustGiving page here.
I work full time, care for a young child and have my volunteer role. This is not an insignificant challenge for me to undertake
Mark, kinship carer and Someone Like Me caller.
Someone Like Me is a volunteer-delivered telephone peer support service. All our volunteers are, or have been, kinship carers themselves so they know the issues and difficulties you might be facing. They offer emotional support to kinship carers who need a listening ear from someone who understands what they are going through.
We are so grateful for kinship carers like Mark who donate their time and energy to supporting their fellow kinship carers. It’s thanks to kinship carers like him that we can continue supporting families across England and Wales. Thank you Mark for your efforts!
