We have appointed a new development manager for Wales who will collaborate with kinship carers to ensure they are able to influence policy and practice, as well as shape the development of peer support groups and advice and support services in Wales. This work will be building on the success of the previous Welsh Government funded Kinship Project at Children in Wales.
Chief Executive of Grandparents Plus Lucy Peake said:
“We’re delighted to be extending our support to kinship carers in Wales. We’re pleased to welcome Deborah Smith to the Grandparents Plus team, and we look forward to working with kinship carers, local authorities and charity partners to build on the strong legacy of the kinship care project she led at Children in Wales. This is an exciting step towards Grandparents Plus’s vision of support for all kinship carers, wherever they live and whatever their legal order.”
Owen Evans, Chief Executive of Children in Wales said:
“We welcome the news that Grandparents Plus will be expanding their work within Wales. The kinship care project was an important piece of work and we are delighted to see that the work will be continued and grown within Wales. As a member of Children in Wales we look forward to engaging with Grandparents Plus in the future and congratulate Deborah Smith on her new role.”
