It’s that time of year when you might start thinking about booking a holiday, but the expense can be worrying and often out of your reach. If this is the case, you may be eligible for a free short break from a charity for you and your family.
The Family Fund:
If you have a sick or disabled child, you can apply to the Family Fund for a holiday grant. The Family Fund is able to consider grants for personalised family breaks in the UK and abroad through their contracted provider, Inspire.
The Family Holiday Association:
The Family Holiday Association is now accepting grant applications for free short breaks. We can make an application to them on your behalf if you meet their criteria:
- You must be on a low income (under £24,000 p/a) or in receipt of a means tested benefit
- You need to have least one child under the age of 18
- You must not been on holiday in the last 4 years
The holidays take place between Easter and the end of October and the breaks will be during school term time which means you will need to ask the head teacher for permission to take your child out of school. Some of the breaks are Friday to Monday which means they will only need to take 2 days out of school. Most schools will agree this due to your exceptional circumstances.
If you believe your school will not allow time off in term time please inform us of this at the application stage.
If you have a disabled child, please apply to The Family Fund rather than Family Holiday Association. If you have applied and you have proof they have refused your application, we can apply to Family Holiday Association for you.
We will be dealing with all applications on a first come first served basis.
If you would like us to make application on your behalf, you can either contact our advice line on 0300 123 7015 (leave a message with your details if you cannot get through) or send us an e-mail of your request at kinship.org.uk/for-kinship-carers/contact-our-advice-service
. You will be put in a queue and we will contact you in due course.
