As a result of new benefit changes, the benefit rules for mixed age couples will now have implications where one person is over pension age and the other is under pension age.
Mixed age couples will now only be able to claim Universal Credit from 15 May 2019. However, although these changes come into force on 15 May 2019, it is still not too late for you to claim Pension Credit as part of a mixed aged couple.
Due to the backdating rules of Pension Credit and Housing Benefit, a claim can be made up until the 13 August 2019 and will be awarded as long as the eligibility rules are satisfied from 14 May 2019.
