Ed Davey, leader of the Liberal Democrats, has written a heartfelt account of the experiences and struggles faced by kinship carers and their families in the Huffington Post. Davey has a lifetime of experience as a carer, from looking after his terminally ill mother as a teenager, to having prime carer responsibility for his Nanna and now as a father caring for his disabled son. He was also raised by his grandparents after his mother passed away.
Davey speaks at length about his experience and how he has helped many kinship carers through his constituency work. He also addresses the recent Parliamentary Taskforce on kinship care.
“The huge challenges facing the many thousands of kinship carers across the UK are too often forgotten by politicians and policymakers”, writes Davey.
