Kinship carer masterclasses
Masterclasses are for kinship carers only.
Whether you have a legal order, such as a special guardianship order, or your arrangement is private within your family, these masterclasses are for you.
If you’re not a kinship carer, please do not book.
What the masterclass covers
This masterclass will share information on navigating the family court as a kinship carer.
Going through the family court can be stressful and feel daunting.
You may become involved with the family court for them to make decisions such as:
- where your kinship child lives
- who can have contact with them
- how to manage contact
We’ve worked with solicitor and trainer, Shefali Shah, to create this masterclass. It covers:
- how the court makes decisions
- the stages of the court process
- your role as a kinship carer and the roles of other people involved
- recognising the emotional impact of going through the family court
We’ll also discuss:
- what happens after the court grants a legal order
- your responsibilities
- how long it lasts
- what to do if your legal order gets challenged in the future
After the masterclass, we’ll email you a copy of the presentation slides and some links to helpful resources.
What to expect at the masterclass
Masterclasses give you a chance to learn about this topic in the comfort of your own home.
We use Zoom, a free platform that you can access from a:
- desktop computer
- laptop
- tablet
- phone
Using a desktop computer, laptop or tablet will make it easier for you to see the slides and any comments that are shared. We’ll email you some guidance for using Zoom when you book a place.
Structure of the masterclass
Online masterclasses last 1 hour 30 minutes.
Presenters will give everyone a few minutes to join and then get started.
You can ask questions as we go along by typing into Zoom’s chat tool. Our presenter will make some time to go through questions at the end.
Taking part in the masterclass
Masterclasses run differently to our online workshops. It is a presentation rather than an interactive workshop. To help the masterclass run as smoothly as possible, when you join the Zoom meeting your camera and microphone will be set to “off”.
