Book your space

Our roadshows are a place to meet other kinship carers just like you.

Together you’ll learn, get support and make new connections for the future.

To get a feel for what it’s like at a roadshow, watch as Kieron, a kinship carer to his 3 grandchildren, attends his first roadshow.

You are a kinship carer if you’re a family member or friend who’s stepped up to care for a child when their parents aren’t able to.

Run by our own kinship training team, we’ve created the roadshows to:

  • give training in specific areas of kinship care
  • help local kinship carers connect with others who share similar challenges and experiences
  • help you understand the support available to you locally

You’ll be in a safe space with other kinship carers just like you. Unfortunately we can’t have children at the roadshow – we want to give kinship carers space to learn and focus on themselves.

What happens on the day

  1. 9.30 am to 10.15 am

    Arrival and welcome

Look out for a member of the Kinship team to welcome you and get you settled with a drink. Nervous about speaking to other people? Let our team know and we’ll help introduce you to other kinship carers to put you at ease. After getting settled at a table with a drink and our materials pack, we’ll start the day with a friendly welcome from our training team and let you know what’s to come.

  2. 10.15 am to 11 am

Making decisions for your kinship child

A workshop to help you understand parental responsibility and the different types of kinship care.

  3. 11.15 am to 12.15 pm

    Introduction to trauma and attachment

A workshop to help you learn how trauma and attachment can affect the children you care for, and how to support them.

  4. 12.15 pm to 1.05 pm

    Lunch

Enjoy the free lunch included with your booking, and chat with other kinship carers or our Kinship team.

  5. 1.05 pm to 1.55 pm

    School systems for kinship children

A workshop to explain support in schools and early years settings and share practical tips.

  6. 2 pm to 2.30 pm

    Self-care and support

A workshop to give you tips on looking after your physical and mental health.
