About the Kinship Care Guide for England (Fourth Edition)

The Kinship Care Guide for England (Fourth Edition) is a practical, user-friendly companion guide for every kinship carer in England.

Co-created with kinship carers, this guide is designed to meet the real-world needs of friends or family members who step up to raise a child when their parents aren’t able to. It includes a wealth of information and advice, developed with experts and kinship carers.

The guide simplifies complex topics such as law, finances and assessment processes, using clear visuals, case studies, reference guides and checklists. It is ring-bound and includes space for notes, so you can take it with you to meetings at every step of your journey.

The fourth edition was first made available to kinship carers online in November 2024. We updated it in line with the latest statutory guidance and published this latest, printed version in September 2025.

The Kinship Care Guide for England (Fourth Edition) is print only. It is not currently available online.
