Are you a kinship carer? Do you want to have fun with your kin children and meet other kinship families?
If you’re based in Middlesbrough or Redcar and Cleveland, then you can join our Kinship Active project.
What is Kinship Active?
Our Kinship Active project is for kinship families who want to get out the house, have fun and meet other kinship families.
It’s a space for your kin children to meet other children in kinship families, take part in activities like walks, sports days or even making meals together.
We help you to make more cherished memories.
It’s a place for you to chat to other kinship carers, sharing your stories and supporting each other to get a bit more active.
You’ll do things at your own pace and be completely supported by our friendly project workers, Sue and Jane.
How to sign up to Kinship Active?
To sign up you just need to press the button below and complete the form and Sue or Jane will be in touch.
What happens when you sign up?
When you sign up, Sue will contact you for a chat if you live in Redcar and Cleveland, and if you live in Middlesbrough Jane will give you a call.
They’ll tell you a bit more about upcoming activities, how you can join our private Facebook group and help you to set any goals you might have.
Then over the next few months, they’ll check in with you, see how you’re doing and help you to stay on track with your goals. There’s no pressure and you’ll be part of a really lovely local community who are very supportive.
One day you might go for a walk on the beach, on another you might join our Zumba class or take part in our virtual walking challenge. There’s something for everyone!
You’ll also get support our advice team, our grants volunteers and also access our friendly support groups.
What do other kinship carers say about Kinship Active?
We’re really proud of kinship carers who have taken part in the project so far. This is what they say:
“I had to leave my home and friends and felt so alone. This project has helped me meet more carers, make friends and do fun things with the kids. Thank you.”
“I now walk to and from school with my grandson. We all look forward to the activities and seeing other families. It’s just the motivation we needed.”
“Kinship Active and kinship carers have been so much support and have done so much for me and my grandson thank you so much everyone really do appreciate everything you have done.”
What about COVID-19 and doing activities?
At the moment, we’re hosting all of our activities online but we’re working towards returning to meeting face-to-face as soon as it’s safe to.
Sue and Jane will keep you up to date as we do this and make sure that you feel comfortable.
Why do you have to be based in Middlesbrough or Redcar and Cleveland to join Kinship Active?
We’re just funded by Sport England to work in these two areas, but we hope to be able to set up Kinship Active in other places.
