Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is open to all kinship carers living in England. It will be most relevant for kinship carers with children under 13.
If you’re interested in learning how to use stories to discuss emotions and identity, this is the workshop for you.
If you join, you will also receive a free book to keep for each child in your care.
What will be covered?
In this hour-long workshop, you will:
- explore how to use stories and books to start conversations with your child on specific topics
- discover specific books for discussing emotions and identity
Participants who join the session will receive a free book to keep for each child in their care.
How to join the workshop
All workshops will be held online using a free platform called Zoom. Please note that numbers are limited for each session to around 20 to 25 people to allow you to meet other kinship carers.
You can access Zoom through a desktop computer, laptop, tablet or even your phone. You may need to download Zoom before you join – please factor in time to do that. The best experience will be through a computer or laptop. Watch a video on how to join a Zoom meeting.
To join the workshop, click on the Zoom link in the email we send you after you’ve booked your free place..
Please make sure you:
- join on time – late joiners might not be admitted after 15 minutes
- have a pen/pencil and paper to make notes
What happens if you need to cancel your place?
We understand that life gets in the way sometimes, so if you need to cancel your place please do try and let us know as soon as possible.
You’ll be able to do this through:
- the email confirmation you received when you first booked
- or by filling out our training and support enquiries and complaints form
Who runs this workshop?
Ciara McClelland will run this workshop, on behalf of BookTrust, the UK’s largest children’s reading charity.
About Ciara McClelland
Ciara has over 14 years practice experience and specialises in working with young people, parents, families and caregivers impacted by adverse childhood experiences. Additionally, Ciara works on relationship repair within traumatised systems, organisations and communities. Her approach is innovative, creative, and trauma informed, combining psychodynamic and somatic therapies.
Ciara grew up on the border in Ireland in the 1980s where community relational conflict and trans-generational trauma was rife. She has undertaken her own transformative healing journey through therapeutic exploration, academic learning and discovery, her journey has inspired her to help others to find safety and connection in their own relationships.
