Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is open to all kinship carers living in England. It will be most relevant for kinship carers with children under 13.
If you’re interested in learning how to use stories to discuss emotions and identity, this is the workshop for you.
If you join, you will also receive a free book to keep for each child in your care.
What will be covered?
In this workshop, you will:
- explore how to use stories and books to start conversations with your child on specific topics
- discover specific books for discussing emotions and identity
Participants who join the session will receive a free book to keep for each child in their care.
How to join the workshop
All workshops will be held online using a free platform called Zoom. Please note that numbers are limited for each session to around 20-25 people to allow you to meet other kinship carers.
You can access Zoom through a desktop computer, laptop, tablet or even your phone. You may need to download Zoom before you join – please factor in time to do that. The best experience will be through a computer or laptop. Watch a video on how to join a Zoom meeting.

Please make sure you:
- join on time – late joiners might not be admitted after 15 minutes
- have a pen / pencil and paper to make notes
What happens if you need to cancel your place?
We understand that life gets in the way sometimes, so if you need to cancel your place please do try and let us know as soon as possible.

This workshop is run by Dr Lisa Cherry, on behalf of BookTrust, the UK’s largest children’s reading charity.
About Dr Lisa Cherry
Dr Lisa Cherry is the Director of Trauma Informed Consultancy Services Ltd, leading a dynamic and creative organisation that provides a ‘one stop’ approach to delivering on research, consultancy and learning and development.
Lisa is an author, researcher, leading international trainer and consultant, specialising in assisting schools, services and systems to create systemic change to the way that we work with those experiencing and living with, the legacy of trauma.
Lisa has been working in and around education and children’s services for over 30 years and combines academic knowledge and research with professional expertise and personal experience.
