Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is open to all kinship carers living in England.
You might find this webinar helpful if you are:
- worried about the challenges you are facing raising a child who doesn’t look like you
- concerned about racial or cultural tensions and unsure how to communicate with your child
- unsure about how cultural difference may impact your child’s life choices including their future health and wellbeing
- would value tips and suggestions on how to navigate tricky conversations and where to find additional resources
What will be covered?
In this interactive 2-hour online workshop you will:
- learn why understanding different cultures can benefit your kinship family
- learn strategies to spark communication between yourself and your young person
- recognise how empowering 2-way conversations can improve your child’s confidence and emotional wellbeing
- be able to spot emotional distress and know where to seek help
- recognise and challenge biases about your child when dealing with health and social care agencies and other professionals
The expert facilitators leading the workshop bring lots of expertise and lived experience. During the session, you will have plenty of opportunities to speak with them about these sensitive issues. After the workshop you’ll also receive the presentation slides and additional information by email, along with a short feedback survey.
