Who this masterclass is for
This masterclass is open to kinship carers living in England.
This special Kinship Care Week masterclass offers kinship carers a space to reflect on the evolving nature of their role, the long-term emotional impact and the importance of self-awareness, self-care, and community with other kinship carers who can support one another.
You might find this masterclass helpful if you want to:
- learn practical tools to manage stress, emotions and family challenges
- consider how kinship care affects you as an individual, as well as your family
- find out where to get support for yourself and your family
What this masterclass will cover
This is a 90-minute masterclass for kinship carers. It will look at how kinship care has changed over time, the different ways people become kinship carers, and the impact it can have on everyday life. Explore common emotional challenges, how caring affects family relationships, and gain practical tools to help you manage stress and look after your wellbeing. You’ll also hear real experiences from other kinship carers. You won’t be asked to speak, but there will be a chance to share questions or reflections with the host if you’d like.
In this interactive webinar, you will:
- recognise how kinship care has changed over time and understand the different ways kinship carers come into the role
- identify common emotional challenges like hidden grief, divided loyalties and shifts in personal identity
- use simple tools to handle tricky relationships and emotional triggers in everyday situations
- come away with at least 1 self-care practice you can start using to look after your emotional wellbeing
- feel more connected by hearing shared experiences from other kinship carers
How the masterclass will work
The masterclass will last 90-minutes.
We’re holding this masterclass online using a free platform called Zoom. See below for information on how to join via Zoom.
The session will be a presentation, not an interactive workshop. You will be able to ask questions via the chat, but you won’t be able to speak. This is because there will be lots of kinship carers in the session and we have a limited time.
After the session, you will receive a link to a resource page, which will include the presentation for you to download.
How to join the masterclass
You can access Zoom through a desktop computer, laptop, tablet or even your phone. You may need to download Zoom before you join – please factor in time to do that. The best experience will be through a computer or laptop. Watch a video on how to join a Zoom meeting.
To join the masterclass, click on the Zoom link in the email we sent you.
Please make sure you:
- join on time – late joiners might not be admitted after 15 minutes
- have a pen/pencil and paper to make notes
