About the event
This workshop is for kinship carers who want to learn practical tools for raising a child with a different ethnic or cultural heritage from their own.
You’ll explore why cultural identity matters and get practical tips to start conversations, build your child’s confidence, and handle challenges when raising a child from a different ethnic or cultural background.
In this workshop, you’ll:
- learn why understanding different cultures can benefit your kinship family
- learn strategies to spark communication between yourself and your young person
- recognise how empowering 2-way conversations can improve your child’s confidence and emotional wellbeing
- be able to spot emotional distress and know where to seek help
- recognise and challenge biases about your child when dealing with health and social care agencies and other professionals
The expert facilitators leading the workshop bring lots of expertise and lived experience. During the session, you will have plenty of opportunities to speak with them about these sensitive issues.
You are invited to stay after the workshop to have a free lunch and connect with the other kinship carers. Please make a note of any dietary requirements in the booking form below.
After the workshop you will receive information and the presentation slides by email, along with a feedback survey.
