This group is led by Kinship staff and is open to all kinship carers in Islington. The group is a safe space for kinship carers to get together and talk to other carers. We give one to one support to carers who are having issues around kinship care.

What is Islington Kinship Families?
Supported by funding from Islington Giving, we can help kinship carers across Islington as part of our Islington Kinship Families project.
The support we can give you depends on what you need. We’ll work with you to develop a plan to help you with the things that you feel are most urgent or where you have identified you would like support.
You’ll meet Jean and Peggy (our Kinship Family Workers) and they’ll work with you supporting you on things like:
- if you’d like support to talk to your school about what your child needs – this could about a special educational needs and disabilities diagnosis
- accessing support from other organisations – if you or your kinship child has experienced bereavement for example
- becoming a community advocate – helping you to influence positive change in your local community
- getting access to therapeutic support through the adoption and special guardianship fund
- support with accessing additional support services, resources, grants and benefits
These discussions are confidential, we are an independent charity. If a safeguarding concern is raised we will talk you about what that means and our duty of care.

"Hello I’m Jean and I support kinship carers via virtual and in-person support groups as well as one-to-one advocacy. As a kinship carer myself, I’m fully aware of the daily struggles faced by kinship carers and I’m passionate about empowering them to navigate their kinship care journeys to secure the best support for themselves and the children they are raising. I look forward to meeting with you and welcoming you to the Islington Kinship Families project."

"Hello, I’m Peggy. Every day in this role brings something different, and I’m constantly in awe of the strength, resilience and determination of our kinship carers who boldly step in and step up against all odds, to improve the life chances of the children they love and care for. I salute you all for your courage in everything that you do and look forward to supporting you, to secure a brighter future for your children."
