Kinship care celebrated in Tom Daley documentary for Comic Relief
9 March 2022
You might recall last month’s news, where we shared details of our unique partnership with Comic Relief as one of their featured charities for this year’s Red Nose Day.
We’re thrilled to reveal the broadcast date for Tom Daley’s Hell of a Homecoming documentary that’s set to prominently feature kinship care, and incredible carers who step up to raise children they love.
The documentary will be screened on Monday 14 March on BBC 1 at 9pm and follows Tom on his gruelling challenge where he rowed, cycled, swam and ran his way from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford to his hometown of Plymouth.
As part of the feature length programme, kinship care will be firmly in the spotlight, with the programme including a short film about Kinship, including Tom’s visit to meet wonderful kinship carer Meyrem and her family.
Tom heard first-hand from Meyrem about the joys of bringing up her niece and nephews, as well as some of the challenges that she and many kinship carers face, and the difference that Kinship makes. He also joined an online support group and witnessed how crucial these are in providing a space for kinship carers to share their experiences.
