Sign the petition: give kinship carers paid leave from work

All working parents deserve the right support at work but kinship carers, raising the children of family members or friends, have no right to paid leave from work when they take on a child. Many are forced out of work as a result and this is deeply unfair.

The government’s parental leave review is underway – and we know they’re considering giving kinship carers paid leave from work. Now is our chance to tell them that kinship carers must not be shut out of paid leave any longer.

Will you sign our petition calling on the government to close the gap in the law and give all kinship carers paid leave from work?

Tell us your experiences of becoming a kinship carer while in work

While other working parents and carers are entitled to some form of paid leave, kinship carers are expected back to work the next day – leaving many facing significant financial hardship.

We have a chance to change this and we need to hear kinship carers’ experiences to get the government to take notice.

#ValueOurLove campaign

Every child needs love and 141,000 children across England and Wales being raised by relatives or family friends know the value of love. Children growing up in kinship care have often had a really difficult start in life having experienced significant trauma and loss that lasts a lifetime. Yet unlike children in foster care, most of them and those caring for them receive no support, pushing kinship families to breaking point.

The #ValueOurLove campaign is bringing kinship carers, campaigners and passionate supporters together to transform the broken system, so that all kinship families get the proper support they need and deserve. We’re making progress but there’s still some way to go.
