How much time do I need to give?
Our support group leader roles need a regular commitment to provide a consistent service. All other volunteer roles may be undertaken flexibly.
Where will I be based
Our roles are either based in our office in South London (Camberwell) or will be based in your home/local community.
Who can volunteer?
Grandparents Plus welcomes volunteers from all backgrounds and of all abilities over the age of 16. We welcome and actively encourage volunteers who are or have experience as a kinship carer.
What training and support will I receive?
We will provide you with relevant training for the role as well as a copy of our Volunteer Agreement and relevant policies. You will also have opportunities to attend our events and become a member of our Kinship Care Network if you are a kinship carer.
Can I claim benefits while volunteering?
You can volunteer as many hours as you like while you’re getting benefits as long as you keep to the rules for getting them.
Will I receive expenses?
All reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed for travel, food (for four or more continuous hours of volunteering) and any other reasonable costs that occur during the course of your volunteering.
Do I need to provide references and a DBS?
References are not required for any of our roles and a DBS may only be required for the role of support group leader.
What is the difference between a volunteer and a friend?
Volunteers receive specific training to carry out clearly defined roles for the organisation. Friends do not need training and contribute as and when in different ways, such as attending support groups, completing our survey, contacting their MP or helping at an event.
